Dublin books

Dublin (City Guide)

by: Fionn Davenport
As the other reviewers have said, this is a great guidebook. I used it to plan a three-day visit recently. The hotel I chose was exactly as described, and a good choice. Unlike some guidebooks, it has great maps. There are six detailed colored maps in the back of the book, a map of the Dublin Area Regional Transit trains, and numerous smaller maps inside (e.g., maps of walking tours, of Trinity College, of cathedrals). The book is chock-full of interesting and useful info on all the sights of Dublin.

Lonely Planet Dublin Encounter (Lonely Planet Encounter Dublin) (Best Of)

by: Oda O'Carroll
This was my first experience with the Lonely Planet series of travel guides and I will look for them again when exploring new locations. This book was simple, concise, accurate with information on city buses to use, hours of operation, and what to see or pass by. The maps of each district's sites, restaurants and shopping helped you acclimate to the neighborhood and the color photos gave you a sense of the place before visiting. The small, tearout map in the back was handy though I ended up buying a laminated larger one for more detail.

Time Out Dublin (Time Out Guides)

by: Time Out
This Dublin Guide is small enough to pack in your camera bag, and you won't be sorry you did. Combine it with downloads (or printouts if you favor the arcane) and you'll have a grand time in this lovely city and see all you want to see. Do pay attention to the insights about genuine, truly enjoyable pubs v. stereotypic ones pandering to tourists. Note that the few apologetic overtones are by now quite dated: fine cuisine and first rate accomodation can readily be found in the city. And one doesn't go to Dublin for the weather! .
